MEXICO. Empire of Iturbide. 8 Escudos, 1822-MoJM NGC VF Details--Removed from Jewelry.
Fr-59; KM-313.2. Scarcer type with misspelled "AUGSTINUS". Augustin I Iturbide was proclaimed Emperor of Mexico shortly after the War of Independence, and confirmed by the congress of May 19, 1822. In June of that year he was crowned as Augustin I. After ruling for less than a year, he was forced to abdicate on March 19th of 1823. The 8 Escudos was the only gold denomination minted in 1822. Historically significant, as this coin represents the first gold issue of Mexico post Spanish rule. Heavily polished, but well struck on a high quality flan without laminations or other problems. NGC VF Details--Removed from Jewelry.

Estimate: $1000.00- $1500.00
