PHILIPPINES. Manila. Agricultural Prize Medal for the Philippine Islands Struck in Silver, ND (1785). By J. Gabriel Gil. Charles III (1759-1788). NGC Unc Details--Surface Hairlines.
48.69 mm; 34.27 gms. Basso-701; Honeycutt-5; Forrer-Vol. II pg.262; Vives-57; Medina-15. RARE. Bust of Charles III right, legend around with signature "J. Gabriel. Gil." below bust; Reverse: Plow superimposed upon palm tree, legend around, "MANILA" and "GIL" in exergue. According to Forrer the signature on the reverse is referring to Geronimo Antonio Gil while the obverse is clearly signed by his son J. Gabriel Gil who was under his immediate direction. Light hairlines from being cleaned long ago now subdued with light attractive toning. Sharply struck. NGC Unc Details--Surface Hairlines.
