PHILIPPINES. Manila. Agricultural Prize Medal for the Philippine Islands Struck in Gilt Bronze, ND (1785). By J. Gabriel Gil. Charles III (1759-1788). UNCIRCULATED.
48.99 mm; 43.73 gms. cf.Basso-701; cf.Honeycutt-5; Forrer-Vol. II pg.262; cf.Vives-57; cf.Medina-15. SCARCE. Bust of Charles III right, legend around with signature "J. Gabriel. Gil." below bust; Reverse: Plow superimposed upon palm tree, legend around, "MANILA" and "GIL" in exergue. According to Forrer the signature on the reverse is referring to Geronimo Antonio Gil while the obverse is clearly signed by his son J. Gabriel Gil who was under his immediate direction. Light hairlines from being cleaned long ago with a few scattered marks, otherwise no major defects to speak of. Sharply struck, bright and lustrous with light attractive tone amongst the devices. UNCIRCULATED.
