RUSSIA. 10 Ruble, 1903-AP. PCGS PROOF-65 CAMEO Secure Holder.
Fr-179; Y-64; Bit-11; Sev-580. RARE. PCGS and NGC combined have only seen four coins of the date in PROOF with only one coin, the piece offered here, having received the CAMEO designation. It is also tied for highest numerical grade with only one other piece. We are reasonably confident the example offered here is among the finest extant, and certainly fully deserving of the assigned GEM PROOF CAMEO grade. Set alongside multitudes of other gold coins, this piece would surely be the first to be noticed. Deep dark mirrored fields lend dramatic contrast to the fully illuminated portrait, legends, and reverse double headed eagle. Virtually without tone, the state of preservation is astonishing, and serves as a clear indication of the exacting stewardship this coin has received ever since the day it was struck in 1903.
