SCOTLAND. Ryal (Sword Dollar), 1569. James VI (1567-1625). NGC AU-53.
S-5472; C-SJ6RY-015. Without revaluation countermark. A few minor flan flaws, but completely original, having seen no efforts to improve. Sixteenth century Scottish coinage in general being very elusive in the higher grades, the type offered here being no exception, the degree of preservation sets this piece apart from nearly all others of the issue. Overall dark coloration, with sharp well struck up devices and legends. An impressive large crown that commands attention. NGC AU-53.
