Cr-225/1; S-101; Syd-444. VERY SCARCE. Helmeted head of Roma facing right, "XVI" behind; Reverse: Victory in biga right; "L. ATILI" below, "NOM" in exergue. Significant in multiple ways, this piece marks the first Roman Republican issue to omit "ROMA" from the legend. The issue just before this marks the valuation change for a denarius (therefore appearing here as well) from 10 Asses to 16 Asses, noted behind Roma's head. Minor edge marks present, nicely struck and darkly toned. NGC Ch EF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 3/5. Edge Marks.
