FRANCE. 5 Franc Essai, 1942. ANACS MS-63.
Guilloteau-5610; Maz-2662b. Aluminum. By Bazor & Galle. Depicts Philippe Pétain as head of the German puppet Vichy government, with the motto "Travail, Famille, Patrie" (work, family, fatherland) replacing the familiar "Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité" (liberty, equality, fraternity) of earlier Republican issues. Pétain was eventually tried and convicted of treason, sentenced to be executed, then commuted to life in prison where he died in 1951. Conservatively graded with no spots or corrosion, and with a fabulous design artistically reminiscent of the era. ANACS MS-63.
Estimate: $300.00- $500.00
