GERMANY. Prussia. Samoa Conference Silver Medals, 1889. NGC PROOF-64 & PROOF-66.
28.5 mm & 38.5 mm; 12 gms & 27.5 gms. Weber-179c & 179d. Struck to commemorate the Berlin conference on issues related to Samoa, attended by Germany, Britain and the United States in April of 1889. A treaty was signed June 14, 1889 reinforcing earlier agreements previously reached in 1878 and 1879. The treaty was abrogated by the Tripartite Convention of 1899. Both medals have received great stewardship since their striking and retain nearly as struck qualities aside from tone. A pair of seldom encountered medals, especially in the quality seen here.
