GREAT BRITAIN. Canadian General Service Silver Medal with Clasp for the Fenian Raid of 1866. CHOICE ALMOST UNCIRUCLATED.
59 x 37 mm; 38.9 gms. MY-125i. Victoria veiled bust left; Reverse: Canadian flag in thick maple wreath. FENIAN RAID 1866 clasp on original swiveling hanger. Ribbon missing. Inscribed on edge: 746 Dr. J. L. Billing. 1/16 th Rgt. Authorized in 1899 for an event that occurred 30 years earlier. This was the failed attempt by the Irish Republican Brotherhood, composed largely of veterans of the American Civil War, to seize Canada and exchange the Dominion for Irish freedom. Mottled dark patina on the obverse, and very attractive iridescent multi-color toning on the reverse. CHOICE EXTREMELY FINE.
