ITALY. Papal States. Paulus' Apostolus Medal, ND (1500-1550). EXTREMELY FINE.
Cast Bronze St. Paul the Apostle Medal, Undated (early to mid sixteenth century). 86 mm; 169 gms. As Pollard 273, but uniface. Short haired, long bearded haloed bust right. Inscription around: VAS ELECTIONIS PAVLVS APOSTOLVS. Reverse blank, except for a crude rim and border. An old copy in slightly higher relief and at least equal in style to the original. Skillfully chased fields. Tiny piercing at top. Very handsome rich chocolate bronze finish with a slight mottling which is more apparent on the reverse. EXTREMELY FINE.
