White Metal Battle of Vasa Medal. 1714. 48.1 mm; 47.8 mm. Peter I (1689-1725). As Diakov 46.6, but unlisted in this fabric. By T. Ivanov. Laureate and armored bust of Peter right. Reverse: Winged Victory holding captured Swedish flag above map-like view of battle positions. This mid-winter battle, also known as the Battle of Storkyro, led to the Russian capture of the nearby town of Vasa, strategically the most important city in that part of Finland. Lacking the tin pest typical for this piece, this specimen grades a pleasing EXTREMELY FINE.
