FRENCH COCHIN CHINA. Centime Piefort Essai, 1879-A. Paris Mint. PCGS SP-62 Secure Holder.
21.13 gms. KM-PE2; Lec-11a (this coin). Piefort. EXTREMELY RARE. Struck in brass with the reverse die rotated 45 degrees clockwise from medallic alignment. Lecompte lists a piefort mintage of 18, but with only two verifiable examples in collections, the piece presented here along with a single additional example within the E. Henry Collection weighing 21.92 grams. A sensational coin with copious amounts of original pear color brass complemented with a magenta, periwinkle and aquamarine sheen upon the toned surfaces. Struck with dies free of corrosion or other defects, with the resulting product being a numismatic treasure of indescribable beauty.
