Abelam currency ring from Papua New Guinea, ca. early 20th Century. An excellent Abelam currency ring, Yua, from Papua New Guinea, ca. early 20th Century. The ring is made from tridacna shell and is 3-1/4 in diameter. This yua is tapered at both interior and exterior edges and has a smooth, satiny surface. The notched area on the edge refers to the totem bird of the area, the hornbill. Ex New England estate. Value range: $300 - $500.
