Certain stylistic elements of this coin are unusual for the series, such as the grains in the ear being composed of perfect dots and the crude engraving of the letters. While the weight and fabric are consistent with the official issues, these stylistic elements suggest that the coin is an imitation. That said, the style of the letter is reminiscent of the 'biga' gold stater issue, so perhaps this may also be part of a heretofore unrecognized variety.
