SCOTLAND. James VI. 1567-1625. AR One-third ryal (33mm, 9.65 g, 6h). Revaluation of 1578 on a First coinage issue. Edinburgh mint. Dated 1570. Crowned royal coat-of-arms; crowned I R across field / Upright sword surmounted by crown; hand pointing toward X (denomination); 15 70 across field; c/m: crowned thistle. For host coin: cf. Burns 4 and fig. 923 (for type); SCBI 35 (Ashmolean & Hunterian) –; SCBC 5476; for c/m: SCBC p. 70. VF, toned, minor flat strike at periphery, some roughness and light scratches at edge on reverse.
