SASANIAN KINGS. Ardaxšīr (Ardashir) I. AD 223/4-240. Æ Unit (27mm, 11.67 g, 3h). Uncertain mint. Phase 3b, circa AD 233/4-238/9. Bust of Ardaxšīr (Ardashir) right, wearing diadem (type R) and close-fitting headdress with korymbos and earflaps, vis-à-vis beardless male bust left, wearing diadem (type R) and tiara with earflaps / Fire altar (flames 2) with diadems (type R). SNS type VIII(5)/3a(2b); Sunrise 727 (listed there as a tetradrachm). VF, brown patina, light smoothing in fields. Rare.
