BRUTTIUM, Carthaginian occupation. Circa 215-205 BC. AR Quarter Shekel (14.5mm, 1.96 g, 1h). Wreathed head of Tanit-Demeter left / Horse standing right. Jenkins, Some, pl. C, L2; Robinson, Second, p. 52, 3; HN Italy 2020. Near EF, lightly toned, weakly struck on obverse, slightly off center on reverse. Rare.

In contrast to the more usual quarter shekels from this period that were minted in Carthage for use by Hannibal's forces in southern Italy (HN Italy 2015), the present specimen is from one of the more rare issues that were struck at uncertain mints in Bruttium. This particular issue was thought by Robinson to have been struck in Lokris, but Rutter (HN Italy) doubts this attribution.
