Clifton, CW- Bank of Western Canada $2 Sept. 20, 1859 Ch. # 795-10-08 A beautifully engraved American Bank Note Company product. Unfortunately, the beauty of the note was in inverse proportion to its value, as the bank was controlled, as Charlton notes, "by a New York tavern keeper named Paddock, who convinced a respectable old gentleman in Clifton to act as president by paying for his stock. However, the president had no control over the issue of notes, none of which were redeemed." PMG About Uncirculated 53.
