Montreal, PQ- City Bank $2 Jan. 1, 1857 Ch. # 110-14-02-04 This bank was founded in 1833 and became a well regarded institution virtually from the outset. In 1870, however, the bank became involved in a court case involving its speculation in the gold market, which resulted in a loss of public confidence. A few years later the bank merged with the Royal Canadian Bank to form The Consolidated Bank of Canada. This attractive example is the plate note featured in the Charlton reference and is pedigreed to the Tom Flynn collection.
