Cuba 26th of July Movement $1 ND. Apparently this piece is a contribution certificate that dates from about 1953-59. The so-called "26th of July Movement" was named for an attack on the Moncada Barracks in Santiago, Cuba by revolutionary rebels on July 26, 1953. Though Batista's forces were able to repel this attack, it was the preliminary event in a movement, led by Fidel Castro, that ultimately overthrew the Batista government six years later in 1959. The back of this certificate reads: "This certificate guarantees your contribution to the revolutionary cause." While apparently denominated as $1.00, there is no evidence as to where this certificate was issued. Very Fine-Extremely Fine.
Estimate: 100-200 USD
