Sextus Pompey, as Imperator (42-38 BC). AR/Æ fourrée denarius. Imitating issue of Massilia by Q. Nasidius, commander of the fleet. Bare head of Pompey the Great right; trident to right; below, dolphin right / Galley with bank of rowers right, under full sail, helmsman steering rudder, star to upper left. Cf. Crawford 483/2, CRI 235, and RSC 20 (Pompey the Great). Identified by NGC as a "Plated denarius / ancient forgery." Very rare! Small breaks along edge reveal copper core. NGC (as Pompey Magnus) VF.
