Louis XV - French East India Company silver Jeton 1723 VF30 NGC, Lec-5a. Betts-113, Zay-272. 31mm/7.88 grams. A French jeton by J. Bernard, struck for The French East India Company. The reverse legend "SPEM AUGET OPESQUE PARAT translates into the following: "It adds to, or increases, hope and promotes wealth". Strong details for the issue, with some highpoint softening. Almost no marks are present, making this example especially choice. Often sought by American collectors due to its early cataloging as an American-themed piece by Charles Wyllys Betts and while seldom offered, we do note the sale of a very similar example of the John Ford Collection, sold in 2008 by Coin Galleries, bringing $1,610.From the F.P. Briand Collection
Estimate: 500-700 USD
