VIP Proof Set 1935, Crown to Threepence (6), UNC all with a matching grey tone over original mint lustre, in a 6-coin card red box, with the original handwritten tickets for each of the 6 coins, Ex-Slaney 2, Spink Auction 14/5/2015 Lot 432; Purchased from Baldwin, 1948, £10, with a copy of letter from Albert Baldwin dated 23 January 1948, 'We have just acquired a proof set of silver coins for 1935 which is a considerably rarity as there were no official proofs of the ordinary coinage issued for that year. We thought therefore you might like to have first refusal of this and we are sending them along for your inspection and approval. 'ESC p.viii notes 'Before the introduction of Decimal Coinage it was the practice of the Royal Mint to make a dozen or so proofs of each denomination every year, occasionally an odd specimen may come on the market, but extremely rare as an original set
