South Africa, 5 Shillings Sterling, 1900, Green Point Track - POW Currency, UNC
5 shilling "Good For" issued 1900, used in a British concentration camp holding Boer War prisoners, original watermarked remainder.
Green Point Camp was an internment camp for about 5,000 Boer prisoners in South Africa, prior to their transfer to permanent camps. Currency note or "good-fors" produced by the POW Camp Manager for use by Boers incarcerated at the Green Point Track. (Cape Town racecourse today). They were only to be used for purchases in the prison canteen.
