CALABRIA
Tarentum. Circa 490-480 BC. Stater (Silver, 18mm, 8.00 g 3). ΤΑΡΑΣ Phalanthos, nude, riding dolphin to right, his left arm outstretched with the palm of his hand upwards, and holding an octopus in his right; cable border. Rev. ΤΑΡΑΣ Hippocamp to right; below, scallop; border of rays. Fischer-Bossert 55 f (this coin). HN III 827. Vlasto 116 (this coin). Toned and impressive, and with a fine pedigree. Scratches from 19th century cleaning, otherwise, good very fine.
