Syracuse. Deinomenid Tyranny, 485-466 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 23mm, 17.27 g 9), c. 478-475 BC. Bearded charioteer driving quadriga walking to right; above, Nike flying right to crown the horses. Rev. ΣVRΑΚΟΣΙΟΝ Diademed head of Arethusa to right, wearing a pearl diadem and a pearl necklace and with her hair falling back behind her neck but turned up beneath her diadem; around, four dolphins swimming to right. Boehringer 123. SNG ANS 33. A splendid example: bright, well-struck, well-centered and of excellent style. Extremely fine.
