Syracuse. Hieron II, 275-215 BC. Hemistater or Drachm (Gold, 15mm, 4.32 g 10), c. 217-215. Head of Persephone to left, wearing grain ear wreath and pendant earring; behind head, cornucopiae. Rev. ΙΕΡΩΝΟΣ Charioteer driving biga galloping to right; below, pellet. Cf. Goldberg 72, 4031 (same obverse die). A very rare variant. Struck from rusty dies and with some double-striking on the reverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.
