CIMMERIAN BOSPOROS
Pantikapaion. Circa 340-325 BC. Stater (Gold, 20mm, 9.11 g 12). Head of Pan to left, with a pointed beard, a goat's ear and a pug nose, wearing an ivy wreath. Rev. Π - Α - Ν Griffin prancing to left, his head facing with a spear in his jaws, his right forepaw raised and with his left on a grain ear. Gulbenkian 588. SNG BM Black Sea 867. SNG Copenhagen 20. SNG Lockett 1095. A splendid piece, struck on a very broad flan. Some marks in the field on the obverse and some very minor scratches, otherwise, extremely fine.
