ISLANDS off IONIA

Samos. Circa 408/4-380/66 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 23mm, 15.35 g 12), c. 390. Lion's mask facing. Rev. ΗΓΗΣΙΑΝΑΞ / ΣΑ Forepart of an ox to right, wearing an ornamental collar and with a dotted truncation; to left olive branch; below right, monogram within circle. Barron 118d (this coin). A powerful piece, nicely toned and with a lovely reverse. Obverse partially struck flat, otherwise, extremely fine.

From a Swiss collection, ex SKA Monetarium FPL 56, Autumn 1991, 90 and Hess-Leu 24, 16 April 1964, 206, previously with Seferiades in Athens, May 1963.
