Octavian, Denarius (Silver, 20mm, 3.99 g 1), uncertain Italian mint (Rome?), 30 BC. Victory standing right on prow, holding a wreath and a palm branch. Rev. IMP CAESAR Emperor, holding branch and reins, driving triumphal quadriga right. BMC 617. BN 98. Cohen 115. CRI 416. Hirmer pl. 32, 22. RIC 264. An attractive, toned, and well-centered example. Some uncleaned deposits, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
Ex Auctiones 4, 26 November 1974, 277.
It is thought that the obverse of this coin refers to the victory at Actium, and the reverse to Octavian's triumphal entrance into Alexandria.
