Justinian I, 527-565. Solidus (Gold, 21mm, 4.40 g 6), Thessalonica, 538-545. DN IVSTINIANVS P P AVG Diademed, helmeted and cuirassed bust of Justinian facing, holding cross on globe in his upraised right hand and with a shield bearing a horseman over his left shoulder. Rev. VICTORIA AVGGG / CONOB Angel standing facing, holding long cross in his right hand and globe in his left; to right, star. DOC 7 (Constantinople). MIBE 22. SB 138 (Constantinople, but noting that the attribution to Thessalonica is preferable). Rare. A splendid example. Very minor bang on the obverse and a few very minor die breaks, otherwise, good extremely fine.
