LATE ROMAN – BYZANTINE COMMERCIAL WEIGHTS

Circa 11th-13th century. Weight of 1-libra (Bronze, 59x52x31mm, 297.45 g), a deep bowl-shaped commercial-weight with a centering point on the interior bottom; rim ornamented with one deep concentric circular groove, libra of 297.45 g. Cf. CPAI 3, 2, 696 (1/2 libra). A heavy, solid piece with a dark green patina, some remaining encrustations and various imperfections. Good very fine.
