GESNEVVELT DEN . 10 AVGVSTI . ANNO . 1653 (=Lieutenant-Admiral of Holland, died for the Fatherland, 10 August 1653) Scene of the naval battle of Scheveningen. TMNK 00593. Van Loon II, pp. 364-365, ii. A wonderful, perfectly struck piece, beautifully toned. Good extremely fine.

It is interesting to note that the commander of the English ship, from which a sniper shot Tromp, was William Penn the Elder, father of the Quaker William Penn who founded Pennsylvania.
