BENGAL PRESIDENCY: AR nazarana rupee (11.17g), Shahjahanabad, AH1218 year 46, Stv-8.24 (this piece), KM-713, in the name of Shah Alam II, with 5-point blossom to right of the umbrella in obverse center, iridescent toning, choice EF, RR, ex Paul Stevens Collection, ex K.W. Wiggins Collection. Delhi, called Shahjahanabad on the coins, was the nominal capital of the shrunken Mughal Empire. By then the city was effectively under British suzerainty. This has been persuasively argued by Paul Stevens and Sanjay Garg, based on evidence shown in government documents preserved in both London and Delhi.

Estimate: 450-550 GBP
