BOMBAY PRESIDENCY: William & Mary, 1689-1694, AR rupee (11.52g), Mumbai, year 5, Stv-1.26, KM-148.2. Prid-27, with the names of the King & Queen in Persian on obverse, mark 1, superb specimen without any testmarks, NGC graded AU58, RR, ex Paul Stevens Collection. Bombay became a part of British territory as a part of the dowry of Princess Catherine of Portugal, when she was to marry Charles II. The trading center of the West Coast was soon after moved from Surat to Bombay. A mint was established in Bombay in 1672, and by 1815, produced all of the coin of the Presidency, due to the shutdown of the Surat mint.
