BRITISH INDIA: Victoria, Queen, 1837-1876, AV mohur (11.64g), 1841(c), KM-462, Prid-22, S&W-3.7, W.W. incuse on truncation, no serif on crossbar of "4" in date, some contact marks on obverse, minor edge marks, VF. Accdording to Stevens, the Calcutta mintmaster on May 26, 1840 suggested that the obverse dies for the gold coins could be made by adding the date below the bust to the silver coin dies. The rupee die would be used for the double mohur and that of the ½ rupee for the mohur. The mintmaster's suggestion was adopted and the new dies were sent to the Madras and Bombay mints on January 13, 1841.
