Watch List notes:

ABBASID: al Mu'tasim, 833-842, AV dinar (4.05g), Dimashq, AH223, A-225, W-397, Bernardi-151Ge, lovely even strike, first Abbasid gold coinage with the mint name Dimashq, VF, RR. Dimashq was the only important mint for Umayyad Caliphate gold coinage, and likely remained the Abbasid mint for a few years after their defeat of the Umayyads in AH132, perhaps into the early 140s. Thereafter, only silver & copper coins were struck there, until the resumption of gold coinage in 223. Bernardi reported only one dinar of this date for Dimashq.
