MUGHAL: Akbar I, 1556-1605, AV mohur (10.89g), Agra, AH978, KM-106.1, Lid-G5, thick narrow planchet (21mm), superb bold strike, choice EF. Akbar I, also known as Akbar the Great, was the third emperor of the Mughal Empire and one of its greatest rulers. He succeeded his father, Humayan, under regent Bairam Khan, who helped the young Akbar expand the reach of the Mughal Empire. The Empire under Akbar came to include nearly the entire Indian subcontinent, and his power was vast, due to the military and ecomomic dominance of the Mughals. He was able to win the support of non-Muslim subjects by promoting multicultural unity, and appointing them to important military and civil posts. Thus, the beginnings of a multicultural Mughal Empire began under his rule.

Estimate: 900-1,100 GBP
