AMIR OF FARWAN: Ahmad b. Yusuf, 945-959, AR dirham (3.60g), al-Farwan, AH334, A-U1478, SNAT-XIVd:694 (same dies), citing the Samanid Nuh b. Nasr as overlord, some light adhesions on both sides, VF, RRR, ex Stephen Album List 138 (August 1997), Lot 200. Farwan was located in north-central Afghanistan, and was an occasional mint during the Samanid period, then briefly an important mint under the early Ghaznavid rulers, and again under the Khwarizmshah ruler 'Ala al-Din Muhammad.
