ANCIENT COINS, ROMAN COINS, Caligula (AD 37-41), Æ Sestertius, struck AD 37-8, C CAESAR AVG GERMANICVS P M TR P[OT] / PIETAS, Pietas seated left, holding a patera and resting her left elbow on a small figure, rev DIVO – AVG / S-C, hexastyle garlanded temple, surmounted by a quadriga, Caligula stands before, veiled and togate, sacrificing with a patera over a garlanded altar, an attendant leads a bull to the altar, a second holds a patera, 24.26g, 6h (RIC 36; BMC 41). Some light smoothing in obverse field, dark green patina, very fine.
