The Messervy family of Jersey is one of the Island's oldest, a Norman name with, by 1331, one John being a land-owner and Seigneur. Clement Messervy, whom tradition makes to have come from Jersey to America, was a taxpayer in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, in 1673 and took the oath of allegiance in 1685.
