COMMEMORATIVE MEDALS, WORLD MEDALS, Turkey (Medals illustrative of both Turkey and the Ottoman Empire, and the wars against them), The Battle of Navarino, 1828, Admiral Marie Henri Daniel Gauthier, Comte de Rigny (1782-1835), Copper Medal, by J F Domard, bare head left, rev Victory, holding thunderbolt, galley and palm branch, stands on prow of ancient galley, 51mm (BDM I, 601; Dogan 6476; MH 193). Extremely fine.
Gauthier, who had joined the Navy in 1798, was appointed Rear-Admiral on the re-establishment of the Kingdom. He commanded the French squadron at Navarino, in alliance with the British and Russian fleets.
