Indo-Sasanian, Rajasthan province, local ruler (c. late 5th century), base gold Dinar, 6.98g, Sasanian style bust right, wearing crown imitating that of Sasanian ruler Valkash (Balash), streamer attached to neck in left field, unread Brahmi legend right, rev. fire altar flanked by two attendants, with sun above left, moon right, good very fine, an unrecorded type, very rare .
The similarities between the crown on this coin and that of the Sasanian ruler Valkash (Balash) suggest that this coin was struck in the late 5th century, some time between the death of Piruz and the end of Mihirakula's reign. Although a couple of examples have come to light recently, the legend itself has not as yet been satisfactorily read.
