JBBERSON in exergue, small boar, no saddle cloth on horse, rev MAIL & POST COACHES TO ALL PARTS OF ENGLAND, small letters, long crossed branches, M of MAIL close to, and under, a laurel leaf on the branch, edge plain, in collar (D&H Middlesex 343). Generally good extremely fine, the white metal retaining substantial original brilliance. (3)
Originally trained under Halliday, he migrated to London in 1829 where he set up business first at 5 Porter Street in Soho then, subsequently, at 3 Litchfield Street, 33 Little Queen Street, and finally 70 Red Lion Street. Taylor manufactured a number of tokens and medals including those for Matthew Young, Benjamin Nightingale, and William Till. At some point Taylor came into the possession of a number of dies originally engraved for Soho Mint product and took to restriking those, perhaps at the request of others.
