BRITISH 18TH CENTURY TOKENS, ENGLAND, Uncertain Issuer, Copper and White Metal Penny, 1797, obv laureate bust of George III right, GEORGIVS III REX * ATTENDED DIVINE SERVICE AT ST PAULS * LONDON DECr. 19 1797 around, rev PROVIDENCE THIS DAY ACKNOW-LEDGED IN THE MA--NY SIGNAL VICTO--RIES OBTAINED DURING THE WAR, edge plain (Conder p.75, 62; Atkins p.80, 109; D&H Middlesex 197). Copper with minor spots, otherwise nearly as made and with much original colour remaining, white metal struck from a lightly rusted reverse die, minor blemishes and brush marks, otherwise good extremely fine and retaining much brilliance, both scarce. (2)

A good many of the imitation tokens and mules listed can likely be traced to the shop of William Lutwyche. However, at this point it is purely conjecture so, for the time being, they remain listed as having uncertain origin.
