BRITISH 18TH CENTURY TOKENS, WALES, Parys Mine Company,Thomas Williams, (1737-1802), attorney and businessman, part owner and managing partner of the Parys and Mona Mine Companies of Anglesey, Copper Halfpenny, 1791, Druid's head left within oak wreath and border of acorns, sixteen acorns in wreath, eight each side, two inside acorns at tie, one each side, rev P M Co cypher, ANGLESEY MINES HALFPENNY 1791 around within a border of acorns, ascending strokes of M of PMCo of equal length, first ascending stroke points to centre of E, second ascending stroke to right of S of MINES, edge PAYABLE X IN X LONDON X OR X ANGLESEY. X (Conder p.5, 32; Atkins p.282, 213; D&H Anglesey 409, this token illustrated). Contact marks and a bit of red casting wax adhering, nearly as made with some faded colour remaining.

Williams effectively gained control of the entire operations of the Parys Mountain and, later, the Cornish Metal Company, giving him a near monopoly over the development and production of copper and the copper trade in Great Britain.
