BRITISH 18TH CENTURY TOKENS, SCOTLAND, Thomas & Alexander Hutchinson, Thomas Hutchison (1744-1812), and his brother, Alexander (1743-1823), merchants, Edinburgh, Copper Halfpenny, 1791, obv figure of St Andrew, NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSIT around, top right corner of cross points to second limb of L of LACESSET, top leaf of right thistle points below T of LACESSIT, 1 of date under inside edge of base of cross, 7 under right foot, 9 just to left of left foot, 1 under edge of robe, rev arms of Edinburgh between thistles, crest an anchor, EDINBURGH HALFPENNY, stop after HALFPENNY, no bands on anchor stock, top leaf on right thistle points to centre of space between N and Y of HALFPENNY, edge PAYABLE AT MACCLESFIELD LIVERPOOL OR CONGLETON (D&H Lothian 31a). Struck from a flawed obverse die, nearly very fine and exceptionally rare.
