Great Britain 1917 (Au) Sovereign, George V, London mint (KM: 820, S-3996) Almost all this mintage of just over a million was melted down after World War 1 to pay debts. Other 1917 Sovereigns with Australian and Canadian mintmarks exist and these are common. But the legendary status of the original London mint examples always generates keen interest when offered at auction. This is a very pleasing and rare coin.
