Potosi, Bolivia, cob 8 reales, 1652E post-transitional (transitional Type VIII/B), 1-PH-6 at top, Royal dies (rare). S-P37a; KM-21; CT-434. 19.64 grams. Thin from corrosion (unspecified salvage) but with full inner details on both sides (AVF with central weakness), parts of all three dates, nicely toned. Despite the corrosion and uneven strike on this coin, Mastalir's meticulous research proves that this coin is in fact a die match with Lazaro 131 and is from a subtype that counts among its members four different Royals. Pedigreed to the Roberto Mastalir collection, #VIII.1-B.ba.x1(3)2 in his book (page 226). ($300-450)
