ANTON AVG IMP III COS DE[S III•III•V•R•P•C], bare head right; small P (signature) in hair below ear / ANTONIVS/AV[G I]MP III in two lines. Crawford 542/2; CRI 347; Sydenham 1209; RSC 2; Type as RBW 1831. Near VF, toned, obverse banker's mark.
From the Andrew McCabe Collection. Ex Classical Numismatic Group 49 (17 March 1999), lot 1316; Reinhold Faelten Collection (Stack's, 20 January 1938), lot 1495.
This coin oddly repeats Antony's titles on both the obverse and reverse; perhaps the prominent placement of M.SILANVS as the sole reverse type on Cr. 542/1 seemed to usurp Antony's primacy. The engraver's signature letter P is visible under the first curls of hair behind the ear. [A. McCabe]
